Start it off Right.
Productive mornings lead to productive days.
I’ve started my days either: feeling pumped for what lies ahead or feeling lazy and wanting the stay in my Pj’s all day long. No judgement ladies whatever you choose! These ups and downs are normal and I fully expect to have my fair share of lazy days as a Stay-at-Home mom (Post on The Not So Perfect Mom -case in point), however I have noticed a few patterns and routines that lead to either procrastination or to productivity.
Here’s what works, and filtered throughout I’ll mention what doesn’t. And don’t forget about the FREE HABIT TRACKER PRINTABLE as promised down below.
Wake up early.
Ok before you skip this point and move onto the next, hear me out!
Sleeping in is beautiful, is wonderful, and is all adjectives referring to absolute bliss. I get it and I don’t scoff at mom’s wanting… no needing extra sleep. But can we be honest with ourselves for a minute and admit that when we wake up early, we start our days off with an extra bang?? Yeah you know it’s true!
Imagine with me for a moment, just close your eyes and day dream, of a quiet house, a little “you time”. ‘Nouf said.
After children, the amount of hours or even minutes of quiet time are few and far between. Waking up early before the kids allows time to yourself, time to get things together for the day that lies ahead.
Ok so now that you’ve begrudgingly taken my advice to set the alarm, now what??
But First Coffee.
This isn’t an original slogan, but it happens to be one of my favorites. PNW and coffee go hand in hand. Peanut Butter & Jelly.
Okay, don’t get up and kill yourself… just a few odds and ends that will start the day off right. Things that need done before sitting down. Examples:
15 minutes of exercise.
This could include some simple stretches to get the blood flowing. Yoga stretches or a small cardio routine if you’re looking to drop a few pounds and increase heart rate. Go for a walk if it’s nice weather (fresh air is always a good idea). Anything to get your body moving.
Exercise is one of five ways we can increase our happiness, so add it into your morning routine and you will thank yourself.
Time to get dressed.
Take your shower, and feel fresh for the day. If you take your shower in the evening, freshen up by fixing your hair and putting on some essential oils for floral scent. Brush teeth, get clean, smell good. You know the gist. It seems like staying in the clothes you slept in will only increase your chances of staying lazy. Surprise Surprise. So get dressed, get freshened up and feel confident for your days activities. At least now you wont feel weird taking the trash out or going to get your mail.
For me, throwing on a bit of makeup makes me feel put together, even if I don’t plan on leaving the house and no one will see me that day. The
Make yourself a delicious, hot breakfast to enjoy and fill up that coffee mug (COFFEE TAKE TWO). Sit down, relax and enjoy.
Or blend up a fruit smoothly with packed in protein.
Either way, fix a breakfast that fuels your brain and helps your body perform.
Journaling for the Busy Momma.
Write down what else needs accomplished throughout the day and on into the week. You’ll be surprised at how writing things down causes us to actually accomplish the task! Write down dinner menus and errands to run. All these things will help us feel “on top of it” and in control. Check out my post on Journaling for the Busy Mom and read tips on how to best utilize this organizational tool.
At this point, the kids are probably awake and wanting in on the action. Things to remember to keep the day’s momentum, even when caring for babies and toddlers…
